About Yukti Wellness

Yukti is an ancient word originating in Sanskrit. Like many Sanskrit words, after being adapted and recycled by other languages such as Hindi and Marathi, it's been ascribed various different meanings and definitions. Yukti can mean skill, proficiency, ingenuity, or union. In the Ayurvedic tradition, yukti means something like 'to choose the right medicine based on thoughtful planning'. Our particular inspiration for choosing the name 'Yukti Wellness' came from the book The Radiance Sutras by Lorin Roche.

In his book Roche reveals that yukti is "one of the words for 'a practice,' or meditation technique" in the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra tradition, a "variation on the word yoga" itself. But its meaning goes deeper than that, as Roche explains further, the word yukti coveys the sense of "joining together the essential elements at the right time and place".

For us, the word yukti perfectly captures our intention. It is what we aspire to do for ourselves and for our clients: bring the right people together, in the right place, at the right time.

When our good intentions and our actions align, then the real magic may begin.

We choose beautiful, inspirational locations, places where physical comfort can be so assured it can become an afterthought. The comfort and inherent sense of safety that we cultivate creates an opportunity  to get vulnerable while feeling held.

We  find we  become more willing to let go when we know there is a safety net to catch us.

Jesse Newton

Co-Founder of Yukti Wellness

Jesse was fortunate enough to have been born and raised in the Green Mountains of Vermont, where from a young age he was taught a deep love and respect for nature that he still feels to this day.

Jesse began his career in the world of food at 16 years old, when he first became a cook at a busy hometown restaurant.

For 18 years he worked at restaurants of nearly every conceivable concept, size and location.

Jesse began using meditation as coping mechanism to deal with the stress of working in commercial kitchens. Given his love of the outdoors, Jesse gravitated into forests to envelop himself in the calm, nurturing energy. It provided relief from the high energy, intense chaos of the kitchen. Before he’d heard of Shirin Yoku, or the Japanese practice of forest bathing, he already knew firsthand the rejuvenating effect of immersing oneself in nature.

In 2019 he went to the Kripalu Institute, attended the School of Mindful Outdoor Leadership and was certified as a Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide (KMOG). Jesse now leads Mindful Outdoor Experiences and nature meditations, using his KMOG training to help people reestablish a deep meaningful connection with the earth and themselves.  Jesse and his wife Alexa host annual wellness retreats in Costa Rica where Inspired by their own improved health and vitality, and armed with a passion for exciting dishes and world cuisine he creates delicious, healing meals that satisfy  and nourish the mind, body, and soul, while never sacrificing ethics, health, or flavor.

These days, when he's not getting creative in the kitchen, you'll probably find Jesse wandering the forested hills with his dog, fishing and camping, or else holed up in a hammock with a good breeze and a great book
